I received this message and thought that it would have universal application
so it has been uploaded here on CIS. ICOM has not made this modification to
any radios so we can not verify that it works.
It does seem to be an elegant solution to a common problem however.

Hi Bill, Some time ago I asked the question re: improving the output from the
Icom 745 so that it would drive various types of VHF transverters. Many
methods were checked out but the easiest and best (in my opinion) was to place
a CATV chip in series with the converter output of the 745. This chip at aprox
13.8 volts will give more output than most transverters require. The chip # is
MHW1342. There are no tuned circuits just B= in/out and four grounds. Have
reached number 104 off the moon on 144 MHZ. Best 73 Ted Sparrow VE3BQN.
